.INX - S & P 500 Index

The index is a market-capitalization-weighted index of 500 leading publicly traded companies in the U.S., launched in 1957. It is widely regarded as the best single gauge of large-cap U.S. equities, covering approximately 80% of available market capitalization. The index is considered a broader cross-section of the U.S. market compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which includes only 30 companies. Additionally, the S&P 500 is composed of 503 stocks issued by 500 different companies, as some companies have multiple classes of stock.
